Portland police are investigating an accident Tuesday in which a pedestrian suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a moped.

David Burnham, 52, of Portland, was injured as he crossed Brighton Avenue near the intersection of St. John Street about 8:35 p.m. He was struck by a 2007 Honda moped driven by Kelly McGovern, 36, of Portland.

Burnham was taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment. McGovern was not injured.

Brighton Avenue was partially closed to traffic for a short time.

The Portland Police Department is asking anyone who might have witnessed the accident to call their Traffic Division at 874-8532.
