CHEBEAGUE ISLAND — The fiscal year 2017 budget of almost $3.2 million will go to voters June 11 at the annual Town Meeting.

In addition, voters on June 14 will elect candidates for seats on the Board of Selectmen and the School Committee.

The proposed budget is an increase of 8.5 percent, or $250,500, over current spending. If passed, the result would mean a tax increase of 7.5 percent, which would bring the tax rate to $16.65 per $1,000 of assessed value.

The overall budget includes the municipal and school budgets, along with the Cumberland County assessment. The municipal budget is $1.9 million, the school budget is $1.1 million, and the county assessment is $131,000.

Town Clerk Gloria Brown said print copies of the Town Meeting warrant will be available at Town Hall next week.

The June 11 Town Meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in Island Hall. Polls will be open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. June 14, also at Island Hall.

Candidates

Two seats on the Board of Selectmen and two on the School Committee, all for three years, will be on the June 14 ballot.

All four races are uncontested.

Selectman Jean-Louis “Bo” Beaupre, who was elected to the board in a March 1 special election, is seeking a full term. John Corson Jr., who ran unsuccessfully in the special election, is also seeking a seat on the board.

School Committee Vice Chairwoman Suzanne Rugh is seeking re-election, and Stephen Todd is also running for the board.

Christopher Loder, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, and School Committee member Carol White decided not to seek re-election.
