Saco residents will vote June 14 on a $34 million school budget that does not impact local taxes.

Despite a $1 million reduction in state education aid, the budget is only about $140,000 higher than the current budget, said Superintendent Dominic DePatsy.

“We didn’t have to cut positions, but we didn’t fill positions by attrition,” DePatsy said.

There are no significant changes to staffing or programs as a result of the budget, DePatsy said.

The Saco School Board approved a $34.195 million budget, but the City Council reduced the school administration portion of the proposal, bringing the budget to $34.084 million.

DePatsy said this year’s budget process was notable because school and city officials worked closely to develop the proposal.

Saco voters also will decide if they want to continue the budget validation votes. That question is put to voters every three years.

Saco polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 14 at the Saco Community Center on Franklin Street.
