The Freeport Town Council voted Tuesday night to approve the appointment of Susan Nourse as the town’s new chief of police.
Town Manager Peter Joseph confirmed the appointment in an email sent late Tuesday night.
Nourse has served Freeport for 31 years, including 11 years as a lieutenant.
Nourse and Cmdr. Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department were finalists for the position.
“I feel confident that Susan Nourse is the best choice for the town of Freeport and will lead the Police Department well in the future,” Joseph said in his nomination letter.
The final vote was 6-0 with one councilor abstaining.
