Library encore for ‘Concussion’

The Scarborough Public Library is presenting an encore showing of the film, “Concussion,” on Monday, June 13, at 1:30 p.m. Starring Will Smith, the dramatic thriller is based on the true story of Dr. Bennet Omalu, the forensic neuropathologist who discovered the CTE brain disease that affects football players.

Lions Club yard sale

The Scarborough Lions Club will host a yard sale at its clubhouse, located at 273 Gorham Road, on Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Lions Club and its outreach programs.

Seasonal opening of lighthouse set

The Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse in South Portland will be open to the public on weekends beginning Saturday, June 18.

The lighthouse is open every Saturday in June and on both Saturday and Sunday beginning July 3. The cost is $5 per person and all visitors must be able to walk across a breakwater to reach the lighthouse. Synagogue holds

gardens tour

Congregation Bet Ha’am in South Portland will host a tour of its special gardens on Sunday, June 19, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Attendees can learn about the sanctuary garden, the year-round reflecting pool, the bio-retention basin and the entry courtyard garden.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. See www.eventbrite.com or visit the synagogue office to purchase tickets. The event also includes a variety of Jewish coffee cakes and minted beverages. The synagogue is located at 81 Westbrook St.

for Color Run

The Color Run is celebrating its fifth anniversary with the Tropicolor World Tour, which will make a stop in South Portland on Sunday, June 26. Those who want to participate can register now for the 5K, which raises money for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland. The Color Run starts at 9 a.m. at Bug Light Park and ends with a Finish Festival, featuring music, dancing, photo opportunities and massive color throws.

Library kicking off

The Scarborough Public Library will kick off its summer reading program Wednesday, June 15, at 6 p.m., with a special presentation by Mad Science. The event will be held at the Wentworth School.
