Car show help

The Raymond Schools’ Car Show is an annual event that raises money for the PTO Scholarship, which is given to a Raymond resident graduating from a local high school. This year’s show will be Sunday, Aug. 14. The show was created in 2009 by a family that wanted to give back to their town. Serena Knight and her family have produced the car show for the last six years with little help from anyone. They donate the money back to the PTO so that it can give a graduating senior a $1,000 scholarship. This year the PTO is helping by getting the word out about this event. They are hoping to gain some sponsors

to defer the cost of the event and are looking for money sponsorships, money donations or in-kind donations.

Summer at the Library

Raymond Village Library presents the kickoff for the Summer Reading Program, Ready, Get Set…READ!! Sunday, June 26, with The Greg and Axel Magic Show, at the Raymond Public Safety Building at 1 p.m. All children are invited to come and enjoy the fun.

Also on June 26, the first summer book sale at the Raymond Village Library begins at 10 a.m. under the tents. There are great deals on a variety of books, audiobooks, and videos. All proceeds benefit the library.

The Art of Math, a summer 4-H program sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, will take place at the Raymond Village Library beginning June 30. This is a free six-week program, meeting on Thursdays, from 10:30 a.m.-noon, through Aug. 4. This program is for children ages 9-13 or those in grades 4-7. Students of the Month

Sam Plummer is the fifth-grade honored student. According to those students who nominated him, Sam “always works hard, helps people, and stands up for those who do not stand up for themselves.”

When interviewed, he said that he likes working with his friends. He enjoys math and science classes. He plays tennis (just beginning), soccer, and baseball. He is looking forward to this year’s baseball season where he plays first base, pitcher and catcher. He lives with his parents and three brothers. He has a dog named Molly. When Sam grows up, he wants to be either a professional goalkeeper in soccer, or a paleontologist.

Cole Pomeroy is a hard-working sixth-grader. He comes to school ready to learn and pushes through difficulties. His favorite thing about school is hanging out with his friends. When he is not in school he enjoys playing with his dog Bella. Cole has one older sister.

Seventh-grader Claire Nelson is a fun person to be around as well as a loyal friend. She has a good sense of humor and a knack for writing. She is a good listener whose support of others during their good times and their bad ones makes her an empathetic soul. She is usually able to see the humor in life and translates that to her relationships as well as her writing.

Josh Marquis, in the eighth grade, is cheerful and friendly to all. He adds creativity to class discussions and is polite and kind. He always treats other with kindness, and genuinely takes an interest in the activities we do in class. He has a smile on his face more often than not, and is a positive influence on his peers.

Elizabeth Peterson has received the Academic Enrichment Award. She is extremely helpful with other students who need assistance. She is always courteous to peers and teachers and always comes to class with a smile on her face.
