A 1961 Press Herald aerial photograph shows Lincoln Park in downtown Portland, looking south towards the Old Port and waterfront. The Cumberland County Courthouse and federal U.S. District Courthouse can be seen along the park’s southern edge, on Federal Street.

As can be seen in the 2016 Google Earth view of the same area, the eastern portion of Lincoln Park and dozens of Old Port buildings were bulldozed later in the 1960s to make way for the widened Franklin Street.

The Portland Room of the Portland Public Library is in the process of organizing and conserving the archival collection of original Portland Press Herald, Maine Sunday Telegram and Evening Express photographic negatives — a major collection that spans from 1937 to 2005.
