A Hollis man was arrested Monday night after he failed to stop for a police officer, drove more than 50 mph over the speed limit and tried to hide his car at his own house, police say.
Several Maine State Police troopers were conducting a traffic detail in the area of Cape and Plains roads in Hollis on Monday night after receiving reports from residents about speeding vehicles in the area. Trooper Benjamin Smith tried to stop a car driven by 23-year-old Bryan Kelley for a defect, but Kelley didn’t stop and was clocked going 99 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to police.
Kelley passed another car during his attempt to evade police and tried to turn off Cape Road into a private driveway, police said. Kelley missed the driveway and drove into a ditch, but was able to get his car back onto the road. Police said Kelley then drove up the driveway – which turned out to be at his own house – and tried to hide the car behind a building.
Kelley was charged with eluding an officer and taken to York County Jail, where bail was set at $300. State police will request the York County District Attorney’s Office also charge Kelley with driving to endanger and criminal speeding.
