I enjoyed the article about John Menario being recognized for his contributions while Portland’s city manager. I recall many of these changes.

Additional consideration should be taken before renaming Lobsterman Park “John E. Menario Plaza.” The contribution of our lobstermen and women has a deep history in our city for hundreds of years right through today. If my career were on the water, I would feel that my and my forefathers’ contribution had become subordinate, and I would feel slighted.

However, I agree we should honor Mr. Menario. There is a park in its developmental phase on the corner of Congress and High streets that could give John Menario the recognition he deserves. He could have his own statue that could be seen by locals and tourists alike.

Perhaps the powers that be will consider this idea.
