It’s fascinating to see M.D. Harmon finally mention a gay person in a positive context.

In his June 17 column, he approvingly quotes Gwendolyn Patton, a spokesperson for an LGBTQ gun-rights group who wants to see “designated carriers” in places where gay people congregate.

In everything else he’s written in the Press Herald, Harmon treats gay people and LGBTQ groups with a mixture of fear and disdain – look at his columns leading up to the legalization of same-sex marriage in Maine. In this column, however, he seems to have calibrated his dislike of gay people against his fear that someone was going to take his guns away. I doubt we’ll see him voicing approval of LGBTQ groups in any other situation.
