Independence Day will be celebrated locally with a variety of events.
First up is a fireworks show at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough on Sunday, July 3, at 9 p.m.
An all-day, family-friendly event at Bug Light Park in South Portland on Monday, July 4, kicks off with a South Portland Historical Society barbecue at 11 a.m. and a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon. Also, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., visitors can see a Classic Car Show.
Afternoon activities for kids will include old-fashioned games at 1 p.m. In addition, members of the NorEasters Kite Club will also be on hand throughout the day, flying their whimsical and patriotic kites.
The fireworks display put on by the city of Portland that night is easily visible from Bug Light Park.
