PITTSFIELD — Maine State Police say worn tires likely caused a driver to hydroplane and strike a tree early Saturday, killing him on impact.

Kelcin Dullas, 19, of Levant was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident early Saturday morning on southbound Interstate 95 in Pittsfield, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Authorities say they were called to the scene about 1:17 a.m. Dullas’ 2005 Chevy Colorado had skidded off the road into the median, where it struck a tree, McCausland said. He said poor tires on the vehicle during a rainstorm likely caused Dullas to lose control.
