BATH — Jay Kniskern Smith Jr., 70, resident of Old Brunswick Road in Bath, died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. He was born February 23, 1946 in Oakland, CA a son of Jay K. Smith Sr. and Rubel Williamson. Jay was educated in Brunswick schools attending Longfellow school and graduated from Brunswick High School.

Following high school, Jay served in the US Army. He was employed as a welder’s helper at Bath Iron Works for many years.

Jay was predeceased by his parents, his wife Lorraine Smith who died in 2007, a daughter, Jai Lynn Smith who died in 1973 and a step-daughter Terri Gomes who died in 2013.

Survivors include his longtime companion Jacquelyn Bainbridge of Bath, his son, Jay K. Smith, III and his wife Angela of Brunswick, step sons, John Brewer, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Bowdoin, Michael Brewer and his wife Bridget of Bath, step daughters, Donna Washburn and her husband James of Durham, Sherry Brewer and her partner Mona Curtis of Brunswick, a sister Rebecca Randall and two brothers and a sister with whom Jay was recently reunited. Survivors also include four grandchildren, Brandon, Michaela, Spencer and Brooke, 13 step grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held at 10AM on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick with Reverend Philip Ingle officiating. Interment with military honors will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath.
