Fans started lining up as early as Tuesday for the sold-out Phish show Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

Mark Letherer of New Hampshire and his friends made a day of it, eating lobster rolls and going strawberry picking at Maxwell’s Farm in Cape Elizabeth before claiming their place, second in line.

Phish, made up of Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, Page McConnell and Lincolnville resident Jon Fishman, is known for a genre-bending sound and long, improvised jams. The band has played in Maine many times through the years, most recently at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor in 2013.

The band’s most recent Portland performance was in 2009, though Fishman took the stage at the State Theatre in March, playing drums with The Kenya Hall Band at a Bernie Sanders rally.
