The State Fire Marshal’s Office says two people have been charged with burning a boat in Machiasport last month.
Joseph Moore, 29, of Machiasport and a 17-year-old boy from East Machias were each issued summonses for arson and failing to report a dangerous fire, according to Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the agency.
The June 23 fire destroyed a 22-foot-long skiff and a Mercury Outboard motor owned by Cooke Aquaculture. The boat, which had been parked in the parking lot of True North Salmon Factory, was valued at $25,000.
McCausland said the suspects were trying to steal the boat’s gasoline tank. They are scheduled to appear in Machias District Court on Aug. 2.
