A 23-year-old Portland man was injured Saturday afternoon when the bicycle he was riding hit the side of a car.

Portland police said the crash occurred about 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of State Street and Cumberland Avenue.

They said Devon Pease was riding his bicycle against the flow of traffic when he hit the driver’s side of a Chevy Malibu driven by Idhle Gambale, 45, also of Portland.

Pease was taken the Maine Medical Center, and police said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. Gambale was not hurt.

State Street was closed for about 90 minutes after the collision.

The incident is under investigation by the Portland Police Department’s traffic division.
