EASTPORT – A 40-year-old Maine man has been indicted on charges of aggravated attempted murder stemming from an attack at the Washington County Jail.

WABI-TV reported that 40-year-old Hazen McDugald was also formally charged with assault on an officer and several related offenses by a Washington County grand jury.

McDugald was arrested in September following the death of 75-year-old Maurice Harris, which authorities deemed as suspicious. Harris was found dead at his Clark Street home in September 2015.

Prosecutors say the Eastport man went after a corrections officer in February at the jail. The officer, who wasn’t identified, required treatment at a local hospital following the attack.

McDugald has since been transferred to the state prison in Warren.

A phone number for a lawyer who has represented him didn’t appear to be working Wednesday.
