The Bridgton Police Department has identified and charged three suspects in a recent theft of the town’s American flags, thanks in part to the department’s followers on Facebook.

American flags were ripped from their poles on Main Street around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, July 17, according to police. Security footage posted on the department’s Facebook page July 19 was used in identifying the suspects.

“It always helps when you have 5,080-plus friends to turn to when a suspect photo needs to be ID’d,” the department wrote on its Facebook page around noon Wednesday.
