Employee of local McDonald’s named ‘McScholar of the Year’

Recent Falmouth High School graduate Krysia Lesniak was one of only three McDonald’s employees nationwide to receive a $5,000 McScholar of the Year scholarship award through the McDonald’s National Employee Scholarship Program.

Regional McDonald’s representatives and owner/operators George and Edie Lydick  surprised Lesniak June 17 at the McDonald’s where she works in Falmouth at 227 Route 1 with her scholarship check.

Lesniak is the East Region winner, and received the award for her “outstanding employee contributions, scholastic achievements and community involvement.” She is a shift manager at McDonald’s and plans to attend the University of Rhode Island in the fall for its College of Pharmacy doctorate program.

FHS grads send winning message to ‘Arrive Alive’

Three recent Falmouth High School graduates received awards in the 12th annual Arrive Alive Creative Contest sponsored by the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein. The contest asks students to come up with a creative message about the dangers of drinking and driving and/or distracted driving.

Anne Holland was selected as a second-place winner and Caroline Coxe and Devin Birks earned third place for their artwork that depicts the dangers teenagers face while driving. The Falmouth graduates were honored among the top 20 winners statewide at an awards ceremony held in late June.

The Arrive Alive Creative Contest is open to graduating high school seniors in Maine who may enter a creative project of their choice. First-place winners receive a new laptop, and second- and third-place winners receive new iPads.
