FREEDOM, N.H. – New Hampshire State Police have arrested a pickup truck driver accused of leaving the scene of a fatal crash in the town of Freedom.

Police say a Chevrolet Silverado was headed south on Route 153 when it crossed the center line around 11 p.m. Wednesday and struck a northbound car head-on. They said the pickup driver left on foot.

The car driver, identified as 46-year-old James Monroe of Cornish, Maine, died at the scene.

Police said they found the pickup driver, 63-year-old David Clancy of Freedom, walking along the road “with visible injuries.” They arrested him on a felony count of conduct after an accident.

Clancy was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court in Ossipee on Sept. 1. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer and his phone rang unanswered.
