A former math teacher at Mount View High School in Thorndike pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of unlawful sexual contact with a student at the school and of unlawful sexual touching.

Aaron W. Clark, 37, of Etna was charged with the Class D misdemeanors and arrested on June 8 at the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office in Belfast.

Clark was taken to Waldo County Jail and posted bail of $1,500. The bail came with the condition that he not make contact with the alleged victim.

School officials went to the police after a parent complained about Clark, according to Assistant District Attorney Bill Entwisle.

The student had known Clark throughout their time at the school, Entwisle said. Clark resigned from his position at the high school, which he had held since 2008, the day after he was charged.

Clark is scheduled to attend a dispositional conference on Aug. 23. The case could possibly go to trial from there.

If convicted, he could face up to 728 days in jail and a fine of up to $4,000. He would also be required to register as a sex offender.
