The man whose body was pulled from the Salmon Falls River in Somersworth, New Hampshire, Saturday afternoon is believed to be from Maine, according to police.
The body was found in the Salmon Falls River Saturday afternoon and was pulled from the river near the dam off Market Street by state emergency response workers at about 2:15 p.m. An autopsy determined the man drowned.
Capt. Russell Timmons of the Somersworth Police Department said Monday that police believe the man was positively identified during an autopsy. Police will not release his name until they notify the next of kin.
“We are fairly positive we’ve identified the individual,” Timmons said. “We’re trying to contact the next of kin and trying to track down a brother whose name was provided to us.”
The man’s last known address was in Berwick, according to police.
Timmons said police continue to investigate if the drowning was accidental “or something that was planned.”
The Salmon Falls River is on the border between Somersworth and Berwick, Maine.
Berwick Police are helping New Hampshire officials in the investigation.
