I am responding to the Aug. 7 article “As Beach to Beacon race grows, charitable donations fall off pace.”

It’s hard to criticize an event as fun-spirited and well-intentioned as the Beach to Beacon 10K, but it’s also hard not to conclude after reading this excellent article that the Beach to Beacon board has become perhaps a little too clubby, and that there are some unsettling governance issues surrounding the financial management of the race – not the least of which is a board that pays a fellow member $58,000 as a vendor, plus an additional $79,697 for his company’s services.
