PORTLAND — A candlelight vigil to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, in Monument Square.
Hosted by I Am Here, a “street-based harm reduction outreach team,” the vigil is part of a global event, organizers said, and will be preceded by a training session on overdose prevention at 5:30 p.m.
Lantern making will begin at 6 p.m., and the public is invited to bring photos, drawings or statements to post on a memorial wall for overdose victims. Pastor Jeff Logan of Grace Street Ministry will officiate the vigil, which will include reading the names of fatal overdose victims in the past year.
