A York man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly hit a bicyclist while driving drunk in Kittery.

Kittery police say John M. Brushie, 27, was driving on Memorial Circle shortly after midnight Sunday when he hit 38-year-old Brandon J. Hickmott, who was riding a bicycle. Hickmott had to be extracted from underneath Brushie’s Jeep Wrangler by the Kittery Fire Department.

Hickmott was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigating officers determined Brushie was operating under the influence. He was arrested and charged with felony operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs and taken to the York County Jail, where he is being held on $5,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 9 in York County Superior Court in Alfred.

Police ask anyone with information related to the crash to call police at 439-1638 or Seacoast Crimestoppers at 439-1199.
