Our Democratic, Republican and independent legislators made many promises to the constituents who elected them. Frequently heard were vows to make Maine a place where people would want to live, work and raise their families.

Most of them also frequently spoke about the quality of education in our state. A good education helps to ensure that our young people grow up to be responsible adults who will contribute to the betterment of their own families and communities.

From kindergarten through high school, children are taught to be responsible for their own actions and that there are consequences – good or bad – for their behavior.

I think that each of our legislators should personally explain to the young people in their respective districts how behavior that, if committed by them, would certainly have resulted in their arrest, expulsion from school and a stay at Long Creek Youth Development Center, but is perfectly acceptable for our governor.
