A 15-year-old Old Town girl missing for more than 24 hours has been found safe and her stepfather taken into custody, according to Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Natalee Cote was reported missing at 3 p.m. Monday after she was picked up at school by her stepfather, Christopher Julian. She was found “safe” in Hampton, New Hampshire, McCausland said in an email.
Old Town Police Capt. Lee Miller said Cote left willingly with Julian, but after receiving further information Tuesday, police believed Cote could be endangered. They put out a temporary warrant for Julian’s arrest on a charge of criminal restraint.
Miller said that Cote’s mother reported her missing after she found several items, including a debit card, missing from her home. She also learned Julian withdrew money from an ATM and made a purchase at a store in Bangor.
Old Town police said in a Facebook post Tuesday evening that Natalee was waiting for her mother to pick her up.
Old Town police worked with the Maine State Police and Maine Information and Analysis Center to locate the missing teen. Maine Department of Transportation message boards and Maine lottery machines were activated with information about the case, McCausland said.
