BALTIMORE — Mark Trumbo hit his major league-leading 43rd home run to break an eighth-inning tie and carry the Baltimore Orioles past the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 on Sunday.

Manny Machado also homered for the Orioles, who salvaged a split of the four-game series against the last-place Rays.

Baltimore came in trailing first-place Boston by three games in the AL East and leads Toronto for the first AL wild card by a game. The Red Sox and Orioles begin a four-game series at Camden Yards on Monday night.

ANGELS 4, BLUE JAYS 0: Mike Trout and Albert Pujols each scored twice, Alex Meyer gave up two hits in five innings for his first career win, and Los Angeles beat Toronto in Anaheim, California.

The Blue Jays fell out of a tie with Baltimore for the top AL wild-card spot and lead Seattle by one game for the second spot.

TIGERS 9, INDIANS 5: J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton homered as Detroit defeated Cleveland for only the second time in 15 games this season, winning in Cleveland.

Miguel Cabrera got his 2,500th career hit to help the Tigers pull within seven games of Cleveland. Detroit had been outscored 91-40 in its first 14 games against the Indians this year.

MARINERS 7, ASTROS 3: Seth Smith hit a pair of home runs and drove in four to back up a solid outing by Ariel Miranda and Seattle remained in the thick of the congested wild-card race with a victory in Seattle.

ROYALS 10, WHITE SOX 3: Kendrys Morales homered and drove in four runs, Danny Duffy pitched effectively into the eighth inning and Kansas City won at home.

A’S 5, RANGERS 2: Khris Davis homered twice, giving him 40 for the season, and Oakland beat host Texas to keep the Rangers from moving closer to the AL West title.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

BREWERS 3, CUBS 1: Major league ERA leader Kyle Hendricks allowed two runs in six innings but remained stuck on 15 victories as Milwaukee beat the Cubs in Chicago.

REDS 7, PIRATES 4: Joey Votto smacked his 25th homer, Tucker Barnhart tied his career high with four RBI and host Cincinnati snapped Pittsburgh’s four-game winning streak.

MARLINS 5, PHILLIES 4: J.T. Realmuto delivered a go-ahead infield single in the eighth, Christian Yelich belted a game-tying home run earlier in the inning and Miami rallied for a victory in Philadelphia.

CARDINALS 3, GIANTS 0: Alex Reyes pitched seven dominant innings in his third major league start, fellow rookie Alemys Diaz hit a two-run homer and St. Louis moved up in the tight NL wild-card race, blanking host San Francisco.

Braves 6, Nationals 2: Adonis Garcia drove in three runs, Matt Wisler pitched five-plus innings and Atlanta beat Washington in a rain-shortened game in Atlanta.

ROCKIES 6, PADRES 3: Mark Reynolds homered in the fourth inning, Chad Bettis pitched into the sixth and Colorado beat San Diego in Denver.

DIAMONDBACKS 10, DODGERS 9: Brandon Drury singled with two outs in the 12th inning to score Paul Goldschmidt, lifting Arizona to a win at home.

INTERLEAGUE

METS 3, TWINS 2: Gabriel Ynoa struck out eight over 42/3 innings in his first major league start to aid the Mets’ rickety rotation, and New York completed a three-game sweep in New York.
