DOVER, N.H. (AP) — Authorities say a Maine man facing sexual assault charges in New Hampshire tried to obtain an emergency passport under his brother’s name and flee to Canada.

Foster’s Daily Democrat reports that a judge revoked bail for 44-year-old Christopher Lunny, of Springvale, Maine, Tuesday after authorities provided evidence that Lunny tried to get a passport from the National Passport Center in Portsmouth on Friday.

Prosecutors say the clerk processing Lunny’s passport request did an internet search that brought up news articles regarding his upcoming trial.

Lunny’s lawyer says his client’s actions were not an indication of guilt.

Lunny is accused of sexually assaulting a girl between the ages of 5 and 9 in Rochester. He will remain jailed until his trial. Opening statements were scheduled to begin Wednesday.
