Bring dogs to an event for fun and good cause

Families and friends will celebrate the lifelong contributions of canine caregivers to cancer patients at the American Cancer Society Bark For Life event on Sunday, at Wells Harbor Community Park. The celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include dog games, dress-up contests, music, food and a community dog walk. The event is part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of York County. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society save lives by funding groundbreaking research, supporting education efforts, and providing free information and critical services for cancer patients. Have art? York Hospital may be interested

YORK — The Art Committee of York Hospital is soliciting proposals for artwork to be hung in the hospital café during 2017. Each exhibition will be hung for three months beginning in January. Interested artists should send a resume, artist’s statement, along with a cd (or hard copies) showing a minimum of 10 samples of work, representative of the work to be displayed, to: Karen Blake, York Hospital, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909. Materials or questions may also be emailed tokblake@yorkhospital.com. Deadline for submitting proposals is Oct. 14. The Art Committee will review requests and notify all artists.

Locals can join Holly Korda on Thursday, October 6 at 1 p.m., at Kennebunk Free Library in exploring the efforts of the Knitting Brigades of World War I and learn how knitting helped unify the nation and win the war. Patrick Dorow Productions presents Cabaret, running Sept. 30 to Oct. 9 at The Star Theatre in the Kittery Community Center, 120 Rogers Road. Cabaret runs Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Thursday Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. General admission costs are $27 for adults, $25 for seniors and $20 for students. Limited cabaret style table seating is available as part of the set of Cabaret for $100 per table, maximum of four people per table. The show is rated PG–13.
