Bath police say a child custody complaint led to the seizure of 17.5 pounds of processed marijuana on Tuesday.

According to a press release, Bath Police Det. Marc Brunelle went to a residence at 5 Bumpy Hill Road just before 3 p.m. to investigate the custody complaint. “While there, he could smell an overwhelming odor of marijuana,” the release states.

The residents, Joseph Plummer, 56, and Alison Hartill, 46, ultimately showed Brunelle a large amount of processed marijuana that police later determined weighed 17.5 pounds, some of it packaged and some in totes.

Plummer and Hartill were both issued summonses charging them with unlawful possession of Schedule Z Drugs (marijuana), a Class C crime based on the amount seized.

They are scheduled to appear Nov. 22 at West Bath District Court.

The estimated street value of the marijuana is $70,000. Police say the marijuana will eventually be destroyed.
