I ate lunch with Everett “Brownie” Carson recently. He’s the Democratic candidate in state Senate District 24 and I didn’t expect to be eating hot dogs and sitting cross-legged on the grass of the Brunswick green. Our lunch kept getting interrupted because Brownie seems to know everyone in town and they all said hi as I inquired about his environmental policy ideas, the importance of education, and how to spur a clean-energy economy. You’d never know this calm, cheerful man is a former Marine who led a platoon in Vietnam. A Bowdoin College and UMaine Law graduate, Brownie led the Natural Resources Council of Maine for 27 years. Indeed, should you take a bad fall while hiking the scenic Harpswell Cliff Trail, your volunteer ambulance driver may just be Brownie Carson. Whether he’s driving injured citizens to the hospital or fighting to protect Maine’s environment, we need Brownie on our side in the state Senate.
