WELLS — Volunteers are needed in the Town of Wells for a variety of committees and departments. Those interested in doing their part to help the town should call the volunteer force coordinator at 361-8130.

Volunteers needed in the following areas:

• Budget Review Committee is seeking one regular and two alternate members for review of the municipal budget as prepared by the town manager and to make recommendations to the selectmen during the budget review process and at the annual town meeting. Three-year terms expire in April.

• Recreation Commission is seeking one regular and one alternate member for an advisory board to the Recreation Department and its policies and programs. The commission meets one Wednesday evening per month and for some subcommittee work. Three-year terms expire in April.

• The Recreation Department is seeking volunteers throughout the year to assist with special events, and coaching and helping with soccer, youth basketball, as well as gymnastic assistants, and other seasonal sports programs.

• Wells Emergency Management Agency is seeking volunteers to train and assist in maintaining the town’s emergency operations plan. Volunteers will respond to town- wide disasters and incidents at the discretion of the EMA director through policy. A one to two hour commitment is required; training will be provided.

• Zoning Board of Appeals is seeking two associate members for hearing and deciding appeals made by aggrieved parties against decisions made by code enforcement officers and the Planning Board. Meetings are the second and fourth Monday of every month. Three-year terms expire in November.

• Cable TV-studio operators are needed to air various board meetings in the evenings on the Wells Public Access Channel. Most meetings are held Monday and Tuesday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. Computer skills and camera control operation experience are necessary; training will be provided.

• Grant Reviewer – the town is seeking an individual who has experience in reviewing and commenting on proposed grants written by town employees to enhance and increase its ability to successfully gain approval.

• Public Awareness Assistant – the Wells town manager is seeking a volunteer who can write well and transmit written press releases to large media outlets, including social media. Must have ability to write concisely, grasp issues, and develop a working relationship with the town manager and his staff to present both public interest stories and weekly news stories of local government affairs to residents and businesses in Wells and also to areas outside the town.

• Wells Conservation Commission – the WCC is looking for volunteers to help with trail building, public education about conservation, research and negotiation of land and conservation easement purchases, photographing natural history, monitoring conservation land, and much more.

• Wells-Ogunquit Historical Society – The Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit is seeking community members to assist with guided tours of the collection of artifacts from local families, fishermen, farms and businesses. Tour guides volunteer for one or two tour sessions per month. Each tour takes 30 to 40 minutes; training will be provided. • Wells Public Library is seeking volunteers for a variety of tasks including shelving books, book sales, processing materials, clerical tasks, book repairs, and more

• Wells Transportation Center Station Hosts – The Transportation Center is seeking volunteers to staff the Downeast Station to assist riders in the morning, evening and on weekends.
