A pickup truck landed on its roof in the parking lot of the Freeport Public Safety building Wednesday after it collided with a sport utility vehicle near the intersection of West and Main streets.

No one was injured in the crash, which was reported at 1:50 p.m.

The driver of the 2001 Ford truck, James Hunneman, 27, of Freeport, told police that a driver who was stopped in the northbound lane waved him on, indicating it was clear for him to turn from the southbound lane into the public safety building lot.

But it was not clear. Hunneman’s truck collided with a northbound 2005 Chevrolet SUV driven by Thomas Shelton, 70, of Freeport. There are two lanes of northbound traffic at that intersection in downtown Freeport.

Freeport police Sgt. John Perrino said the collision caused the truck to tip over, and pushed it into the parking lot of the public safety building, where police, fire and ambulance crews are housed.
