A farm in Saco is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person, who stole a German shepherd and abandoned the 5-year-old dog 30 miles from her home, an action that eventually led to Uhdelle’s death.

Doreen Metcalf, who owns and operates Timber Ridge Farm, posted the reward on the farm’s Facebook page Sunday.

“We would love to raise the reward to $10,000 but we need your help,” Metcalf wrote. “If we don’t use the money as a reward, we will give it out in individual scholarships to animal control officers and animal first responders for education and training. Please help us bring this person to justice.”

Uhdelle was a black shepherd who was running on the morning of Nov. 14 with a pack of other dogs owned by Metcalf when she disappeared. At the time, Metcalf was riding a horse and was accompanying the dogs.

Metcalf said the person who stole Uhdelle removed her GPS tracking collar and then tried to destroy it by throwing the collar in the Saco River. That person then drove the dog to Gray and abandoned her on Egypt Road where she was hit and killed by a motorist.

According to her Facebook post, Metcalf said Uhdelle ran from Monday morning until Tuesday evening (in Gray), “likely trying to find her way home when she was hit and killed by a car.”

Metcalf urges anyone with information to call the Buxton Police Department at 929-5151 or to call her at 602-8521.

Timber Ridge Farm is located on the Buxton and Saco town lines. In addition to boarding horses, Metcalf also breeds and raises German shepherds.
