Drivers may want to avoid High Street near its intersection with York Street in Portland on Thursday because the Portland Water District plans to remove a temporary water line.

The work will be done from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., said Michelle Clements, spokeswoman for the water district.

High Street is one of Portland’s busiest roads, connecting Deering Oaks with the city’s waterfront and running through the heart of the downtown.

Crews are scheduled to remove a water line that crosses High Street near the York Street intersection. Clements advises drivers to find other routes.
