SPRINGVALE — A 24 year-old Sanford man died in a traffic crash on Main Street (Route 109) on Friday night.

Peter Thomas was driving south near 134 Main St. in the Springvale section of the city just before 7 p.m., when, according to Sanford Police Chief Thomas Connolly, he pulled around another vehicle, crossed the center line, and collided head-on with a car traveling northbound.

Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane of Main Street.

The 26-year-old  female passenger in the northbound vehicle sustained injuries described in the crash report as incapacitating, said Connolly. The male driver sustained some degree of injury. Their names were not released.

Connolly said it appears erratic driving on the part of Thomas caused the crash. He said the accident report also referenced ice or frost on the surface of the roadway at the time of the crash.

Thomas was a 2010 graduate of Sanford High School and had been most recently employed as an electrician’s apprentice for Page Electric in Sanford.

He was a Boston Bruins hockey fan and was described in his obituary as an outgoing man who enjoyed his friends and attending family get-togethers.
