SOUTH PORTLAND — Moses Oreste scored all of his eight points in the second quarter Tuesday night, helping South Portland pull away to a 66-37 victory against Sanford in an SMAA boys’ basketball game at Beal Gym.

Oreste sparked a 20-6 surge that carried the Red Riots (6-1) to a 35-12 halftime lead against the Spartans (2-4).

Edward Buckley had 14 points to lead a balanced offense for South Portland, including three 3-pointers, Ansel Stilley had 10 points, and Noah Malone and Ruay Bol each tossed in eight.

Brad Bouchard led Sanford with 12 points.

LEWISTON 47, BRUNSWICK 45: Kym Tores hit a pair of free throws with less than a second to play as the Blue Devils (1-6) edged the Dragons (3-6) at Brunswick.

Luke Madore had 17 points and Garret Poussard added 12 for Lewiston.

Nathan Benoit scored 16 points for Brunswick, including four 3-pointers, and Corban Teel added 12 points.

WAYNFLETE 45, WELLS 40: Yai Deng scored a game-high 17 points as the Flyers (4-2) downed the Warriors (6-1) at Wells.

Jack Meahl and Asker Hussein each added nine points for Waynflete, which outscored Wells 12-4 in the third quarter for a 32-23 lead.

Owen Berry led Wells with 10 points; Deandre Woods added eight points and seven rebounds.

DEERING 57, GORHAM 45: Emmanuel Chikuta had 20 points and four steals for Deering, which grabbed a 16-11 first-quarter lead and steadily pulled away from Gorham (2-4) at Portland.

Marchar Nguany added 11 points and seven boards for Deering, James Sinclair had 10 points, and Ben Onek finished with six points and six rebounds.

Logan Drouin led Gorham with 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Jackson Fotter chipped in with 10 points.

WINDHAM 68, SCARBOROUGH 49: Mike Gilman scored 12 of his 23 points in the second quarter as the Eagles (4-3) used a 25-13 run to break open an 11-11 game and roll past the Red Storm (0-7) at Windham.

Nicholas Curtis paced Windham with 26 points. Gilman was 5 of 8 from behind the arc and added six boards.

Nick Discatio and Nicholas Fiorillo each had nine points for Scarborough.

THORNTON ACADEMY 56, BONNY EAGLE 40: Austin Boudreau knocked down seven 3-pointers for 21 points and David Keohan scored 10 of his 15 points in the second quarter as the Trojans (6-0) cruised past the Scots (3-4) at Saco.

Thornton took a 16-3 lead after the first quarter and led 33-12 at halftime. Nicholas Thorne led Bonny Eagle with 10 points.

BOOTHBAY REGION 59, WISCASSET 55: Jacob Leonard sank a pair of free throws with five seconds left to preserve a victory for the Seahawks (4-3) against hard-charging Wiscasset (5-3) at Boothbay Harbor.

Boothbay, behind 15 points from Kyle Ames, took a 36-23 halftime lead. But Ethan James hit 14 second-half points for the Wolverines, and Zachary Reed added six in the fourth period to cut the margin to 57-55.

Ames finished with 18 points, Elijah Gudroe 15 and Leonard 11 for Boothbay.

James had 20 points and Nathaniel Woodman 12 for Wiscasset.

PORTLAND 87, NOBLE 41: Terion Moss had 23 points, five boards, five assists and five steals for the Bulldogs (5-1), who opened a 20-3 first-quarter lead and handled the Knights (0-7) at North Berwick.

Griffin Foley had 17 points, and Clay Hardy-Lindsey and Emmanuel Yugu each chipped in 10 for Portland.

Luke Carlock had four 3-pointers for 12 points for Noble.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 54, MT. ARARAT 38: Kyle Donlin scored a game-high 24 points and the Panthers (8-0) used a 13-2 second-quarter spurt to get by the Eagles (2-5) at Waldoboro.

Cameron Allaire added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers, who led 23-10 at halftime.

Jared Balser led Mt. Ararat with 11 points; Cole Guerin added 10.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 56, FREEPORT 41: Gray-New Gloucester (5-2) broke away from a 21-21 halftime tie to a 34-28 third-quarter lead against the Falcons (2-4) before pulling away behind John Martin’s 11 fourth-quarter points at Freeport.

Martin finished with 19 points. John Villanueva added 11 and Ryan LaChance 10 for the Patriots.

Ethan Sclar scored 11 for Freeport.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 67, A.R. GOULD 66: Ian Regan’s 3-pointer from the right elbow gave Old Orchard Beach (3-3) a 67-66 lead against A.R. Gould (5-1) with 12 seconds to play at South Portland.

The winning shot capped a 24-point performance for Regan. Kyle Allen and Thomas Fregeau complemented him with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Tyrese Collins of A.R. Gould scored a game-high 27 points. Issak Aliyow and Gage Barton added 12 each, and John Clement had 10.
