Your editorial on Jan. 4 (“Our View: Real ID law shouldn’t fly in Maine Legislature“) misses some very important details for hardworking Mainers and the Maine driver’s license issue.

In the short run, as of Feb. 1, no Maine licensed truckers will be allowed on any military bases and installations without getting an expensive passport. This will mean that many truckers cannot accept shipments destined for these areas. In 2018, many hardworking Mainers looking to take a vacation will have to do the same.

Let’s not get too hysterical about privacy in this case – let’s allow truckers to make a living and Mainers to avoid buying expensive passports they don’t need.
