BRUNSWICK

Police say a car and a dump truck collided head-on Thursday afternoon on Old Portland Road in Brunswick.

The crash was reported just before 4 p.m. near the Fairfield Inn. The section of Old Portland Road was closed between Pleasant Street and Greenwood Road while police investigated.

According to Brunswick Police Cmdr. Tom Garrepy, Michael Labbe, 58, of Brunswick was driving a 2001 Kenworth dump truck south on Old Portland Road. A sliver 2004 Nissan Sentra, driven by 34-year-old Jesse Baum of Lewistion, was traveling north when it drifted into the oncoming lane and collided with the dump truck.

Brunswick Rescue took Baum to Maine Medical Center with what Garrepy characterized as “multi-systems trauma.” He was in fair condition Friday, according to police.

Labbe, the driver of the dump truck, was not injured. The truck belongs to Ray Labbe & Sons of Brunswick.

The collision is under investigation by the Brunswick Police Department and the Maine State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Division. As of Friday no charges had been issued.
