Thornton Academy scored the first 10 points of the game Thursday night and remained undefeated, holding on for a 56-53 victory against Deering in an SMAA boys’ basketball game at Deering High.

David Keohan scored a game-high 16 points for the Trojans (9-0), who led 24-16 at halftime and 43-37 through three quarters. Evan Christensen added 12 points for Thornton.

Ben Onek and Raffaele Salamone each finished with 11 points for Deering (7-2).

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 65, SACOPEE VALLEY 31: Oscar Saunders hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Raiders (7-3) used a 15-8 run to open a 44-26 lead against the Hawks (3-7) at South Hiram.

Saunders finished with 13 points, Cody Gullikson added 13 and Joe LeBrun had nine for Fryeburg.

Kristopher Mason led Sacopee Valley with seven points.

PORTLAND 72, SANFORD 41: Charles Lyall scored 14 points and Emmanuel Yugu 13 as Portland (7-1) defeated the Spartans (4-5) at Sanford.

Treyvonnte Ballew added 11 points for the Bulldogs, who led 32-18 at halftime and 53-25 through three quarters. Brad Bouchard led Sanford with 14.

WINDHAM 73, MASSABESIC 57: Nick Curtis scored a game-high 23 points, including 13 of 13 from the foul line, and the Eagles (6-3) used a 22-9 fourth-quarter run to defeat the Mustangs (1-8) at Windham.

Windham led 36-34 at halftime and 51-48 after three quarters.

Mike Gilman had 21 points for the Eagles, and Dierhow Bol added 14 points, going 7 of 8 from the field and grabbing six boards.

Isaac DesVergnes led Massabeic with 18 points, Zion Mercado had 12, Nicholas Amabile added 11 and Alexander Schepis 10.

SOUTH PORTLAND 65, SCARBOROUGH 52: Noah Malone scored nine of his game-high 19 points in the second quarter, hitting three 3-pointers, as the Red Riots (8-1) pulled away from the Red Storm (0-10) at Scarborough.

After trailing 10-9 through the first quarter, South Portland outscored Scarborough 20-9 in the second to take a 29-18 halftime lead.

Edward Buckley chipped in with 11 points for the Red Riots. Emmett Peoples led Scarborough with 12 points and Nicholas Fiorillo added 11.

WESTBROOK 53, GORHAM 34: Jeremiah Alado scored a game-high 18 points, knocking down three 3-pointers, and the Blue Blazes (7-3) took a 29-14 halftime lead against the Rams (2-8) at Gorham.

Landon Sjoberg added nine points for Westbrook, which outscored Gorham 17-7 in the second quarter. Holmes paced Gorham with nine points, all on 3-pointers.

ISLESBORO 47, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 42: John Gotham tossed in eight third-period points as Islesboro (4-3) used an 18-8 run to move from a 22-17 hafltime deficit into a 35-30 lead against the Lions (1-7) at South Portland.

Gotham and Avery Grindle finished with 15 points each for the Eagles, with Jonathan Runnion-Bareford adding 11. Ethan Spaulding scored 15 points and Jeremiah Hammond had 10 for Greater Portland Christian.

FALMOUTH 60, YORK 53: Colin Coyne and Sean Walsh combined to score all 18 points in the second quarter for the Yachtsmen (8-2), who opened a 32-24 halftime lead and beat the Wildcats (6-4) at Falmouth.

Coyne scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the quarter, knocking down three of his four 3-pointers. He also went 6 of 6 from the foul line in the fourth. Walsh scored seven of his 20 points in the second, hitting two 3s.

Trevor LaBonte scored 17 points to lead York; Jackson McCarty chipped in with 12.

CAPE ELIZABETH 59, POLAND 39: The Capers (7-2) hit 8 of 10 3-pointers in the first half to open a 32-17 lead against the Knights (2-7) at Poland.

Finn Bowe finished with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Cape Elizabeth. Jacob Allen tossed in nine points and Andrew Hartel added eight.

Caleb Hodgkin led Poland with 12 points. Nate Chouinard had 11, including three 3-pointers.

BOOTHBAY REGION 69, OAK HILL 57: Kyle Ames and Jacob Leonard combined for 46 points to lead the Seahawks (6-4) past the Raiders (6-4) at Wales.

Ames arced in eight 3-pointers on his way to 27 points and Leonard repeatedly drove the lane to score 19. Carter Babcock added 11 points for the Seahawks.

Cohen Donnell had 17 points for Oak Hill. Evan Boston and Marcus Bailey scored 14 each.

Ames scored 11 points and Leonard added seven as Boothbay opened a 25-12 lead in the first quarter.

BIDDEFORD 65, BONNY EAGLE 48: Kyle Norton scored a game-high 17 points, hitting three 3-pointers for the Tigers (4-4), who opened on a 13-3 run and beat the Scots (3-5) at Standish.

Patrick Pearl and Austin Dutremble each added 12 points for Biddeford, which led 37-22 at halftime. Zachary Maturo, William Hendrix and Connor Sirois each scored 11 points for Bonny Eagle.

MORSE 63, BRUNSWICK 62: Parker Onorato sank two free throws with three seconds remaining as the Shipbuilders (3-8) defeated Brunswick (5-6) at Bath.

Nathan Benoit’s sixth 3-pointer of the game gave the Dragons a 62-61 lead with 12 seconds to play. Morse inbounded the ball to Onorato, who was fouled splitting a late-developing trap. Onorato made the winning free throws and Brunswick was held to a three-quarter-court air ball at the buzzer.

Dakota Freeman led the Shipbuilders with 30 points. Thomas Warren added 14 and Onorato 11. Benoit finished with 23 points, while Alejandro Garcia Sancho had 13 and Colby Bucknam 10 for Brunswick.

KENNEBUNK 58, TRAIP ACADEMY 57: Zack Sullivan had four points in overtime as the Rams (4-7) edged the Rangers (3-6) at Kennebunk.

Sullivan finished with a game-high 24 points for Kennebunk, going 6 of 8 from the line, and Cam Lovejoy added nine points.

Charlie Driscoll led Traip with 20 points. Angelo Succi and Shane MacNeill each tossed in 11.

MADISON 67, LISBON 46: Mitch Jarvais scored a game-high 21 points and Sean Whalen added 19 as the Bulldogs (9-1) beat Lisbon (5-4) at Madison.

Evan Bess chipped in with 12 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, for Madison.

Jonah Sautter scored 12 points to lead Lisbon.

OXFORD HILLS 69, MT. BLUE 41: James Anderson scored nine points, but it wasn’t enough for the Cougars (1-9), who fell to the Vikings (7-3) at Farmington.

Garrett Reynolds, Will Frederic and Cole Dorman each scored seven points for Mt. Blue.

Chris St. Pierre led Oxford Hills with 14 points.

FOREST HILLS 76, VALLEY 74: Eighth-grader Parker Desjardins scored 27 points to lead Forest Hills (4-5) over Valley (7-2) in a game at Jackman.

PORTLAND/DEERING 1, SCARBOROUGH 0: Dom Tocci scored from Alex McGonagle at 7:34 of the first period as the Bulldogs (6-1) defeated the visiting Red Storm (4-4-1).

Brandon Wasser stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced for Scarborough. Sam Segal had 13 saves for the shutout.

CAPE ELIZABETH 5, GORHAM 2: Philip Tarling scored a pair of goals for the Capers (3-3) against Gorham (3-5) in Portland.

James Boeschenstein, Alex Glidden and Benjamin Ekedahl also scored for Cape Elizabeth.

Dominic Lorello and Lucas Roop answered for the Rams.
