The Coast Guard saved two men from a sinking lobster boat 17 miles off York on Friday.

A crew member on the Miss Mae & Son radioed a mayday call about 3:15 p.m. Friday, according to the Coast Guard. The crew member said the 45-foot lobster boat had been hit by a rogue wave and its pumps couldn’t keep up with the water coming in.

A Coast Guard crew aboard a 47-foot response boat from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, arrived to find the two men in survival gear standing on top of the pilot house. The two jumped into the water and the Coast Guard boat pulled up alongside to get them out of the water. The Coast Guard said the water temperature was 42 degrees and the air temperature was 37 degrees at the time.

The Coast Guard said neither of the men was injured. Their identities and homeport were not released.

The Coast Guard said it sent out a warning to mariners that the lobster boat was taking on water and was adrift with no one aboard.
