SACO — Got an old metal sledding disk in your basement or a vintage Thermos in your attic? You may have an item that’s worthy of a museum display.

The Saco Museum is seeking submissions for its upcoming display, “Winter in Maine,” which will run from Jan. 17 to Feb. 25.

Museum Director Tara Vose Raiselis said the exhibit will take a “kind of light-hearted” look at how people in Maine have worked and played in the cold over the past 200 years.

She said museum staff looked at some of the items in its collection and thought if there was ever a free space between exhibits, it would be fun to feature some of the antique winter items in the collection.

To supplement the museum’s collection, the museum has put a call out looking for submission of items from the 1900s used for winter play and work to borrow for the exhibit.

She said the response has been great, and she’s had people contact her with items to loan the museum to loan, including one family that is lending ice harvesting equipment once used on its dairy farm.

Raiselis said she was contacted by a woman from San Francisco with grandchildren in the area who is sending a sweater she wore ice skating as a child.

Soliciting submissions from the community is a way to get more people interested and involved in the museum, she said.

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 18. Those interested should emaill Raiselis at traiselis@sacomuseum.org.

The musem is located at 371 Main St. For information on the museum, call 283-3861 or go to www.sacomuseum.org.
