The Houston Texans are coming to New England and Gillette stadium this weekend and they might be in for a shock when they arrive.

I’m not talking about snow – certainly there is not big snowstorm on the way – but when you think about the temperature contrast players from Texas are about to experience it might be a factor in the game.  This will hopefully be the first of several wins for the Patriots this playoff season.  It’s been really warm in Texas lately and readings in the 70s were common this week.

All of us have been experiencing a few days of a January thaw and it is back to reality for the weekend.  However, if you are coming from temperatures in the 70s, the upcoming reality is likely more of a jolt to the system.

In Maine, readings will be in the low 20s Saturday at the coast, but only upper single numbers and low teens inland.   Heading to Foxborough?  If you are tailgating before the game, be sure to dress warmly.  The skies will be partly to mostly cloudy.  Sunset is just after 4:30.

Temperatures will be typical for mid-January during the Patriots playoff this weekend.

The good news is we will have very little wind, so both the actual temperature of the air and the wind chill will be similar.   The chart above  shows how temperatures will not change very much between Saturday afternoon and the early morning hours of Sunday.

There will be snow to our south Saturday evening, but high pressure from Canada is going to keep this far from southern New England.  There is a chance of a flurry over Nantucket and some clouds over Gillette Stadium, but that is about all this storm will do.

The trend of the models over the past few days has been to suppress the storm south of New England. Therefore, my confidence is high we won’t see it impacting the divisional playoffs or any other plans folks have for Saturday and the rest of the weekend.

A moderating trend returns next week and this will likely mean the next game the Patriots play will be in milder weather, at least by January standards.
