PORTLAND — Robert E. Shaw Sr, “Bob” passed on Jan. 15, 2017 at the Barron Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Bob was born in Portland, Maine on August 4, 1936. Bob grew up in the Libby Town section with Flako, Roogie, Bucky and the gang. He graduated from Cheverus and joined the US Air Force to see the world. While stationed in Denver, Colorado in 1956 he met, fell in love with and married Dolores Friesen.

Bob and Dolores came back to Maine to raise their family. Bob attended the University of Maine at Portland. He began his career in the insurance industry with Campbell Payson & Noyes in Portland. In 1966 Henry and Henrietta Carroll gave Bob the opportunity to join Paquin & Carroll Insurance, [P&C] as an owner. Over the next 30 years Bob and his partners grew P&C into the largest independent insurance agency in York County. Bob retired as President in 1996 to his favorite place on earth, Little Sebago Lake.

Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolores Ann; daughter Gail Marie Godbout and her husband, Dan, of Saco,;son Michael and wife, Vicki, of Windham; and son Bob and his wife, Kelly, of Auburn and grandsons Benjamin and Cameron.

Bob is predeceased by his parents Arthur and Bertha Shaw, his two brothers, Arthur Jr. and Carl, as well as his sisters Rita Walsh and Florence Foley.

The family would like to invite you to visiting hours on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St, Portland. A committal service will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
