The deadline to apply for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteers program training in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties has been extended to Jan. 28.

The 14-week training will be held from 12:30–4 p.m. on Tuesdays from Feb. 28 to May 30 at Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Road.

The program provides participants with at least 40 hours of in-depth training in the art and science of horticulture. Trainees receive current, research-based information from extension educators and industry experts. In return, trained Master Gardeners volunteer their time and expertise for related activities in their communities.

The fee for the course and materials is $220. Information and applications are online (extension.umaine.edu/forms/gardenyard/master-gardenerapplicationform). Accepted applicants will be notified by Feb. 1.
