SOUTH PORTLAND — School board member Libby Reynolds has resigned after serving one year in the District 4 seat, which means the City Council must appoint a replacement to fill the remainder of her three-year term.

Reynolds resigned “with great regret” on Friday, citing growing work responsibilities in an email to board Chairman Richard Matthews. Reynolds is a KeyBank vice president in charge of New England regional retail operations, according to her LinkedIn profile.

“One month after the citizens of South Portland voted me into this honored position, I received the career opportunity I had been working toward my whole adult life,” Reynolds wrote. “The challenge was that in this new role at KeyBank, I would travel quite a bit. With the acquisition of another bank in Connecticut, this travel will be more than ever and it is not fair to the school board to occupy this seat any longer.”

Under the city charter, the council must appoint a resident from District 4 to fill this seat through November, City Clerk Emily Scully announced Wednesday. An election will be held in November to fill the seat through November 2018.

Any District 4 resident interested in being appointed to the position should submit an application, letter of intent and resume to the city clerk’s office by Feb. 15, Scully said. The appointee also must be a registered voter, remain living in the city while in office and comply with all applicable school department policies, including board member ethics.

The council is expected to interview candidates at a special workshop on Feb. 22 and appoint someone at the regular meeting that will follow.

To get an application, download it from the city’s website or call Scully at 207-767-7627 to receive one by mail. Applications should be mailed to the City Clerk’s Office, 25 Cottage Road, South Portland, ME 04106.
