A Sidney man was found dead along the shoreline of Messalonskee Lake after he became separated from his friend during a snowmobile ride Tuesday night.
Jeffrey Fisher, 32, crashed his snowmobile and was ejected from the sled onto rocks at the end of the lake in Sidney, according to the Maine Warden Service. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is the state’s fourth snowmobile fatality this season.
Fisher was operating an Arctic-Cat snowmobile and was wearing a helmet, the warden service said. After talking to witnesses and examining evidence at the scene, investigators determined speed likely contributed to the crash.
An autopsy of Fisher’s body will be performed by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Augusta as part of the ongoing investigation.
