WELLS — The Police Department on Tuesday put our the word they’re looking into what they described as suspicious activity involving possible credit card fraud, stemming from incidents in mid-November and December at a local convenience store.

“On Nov. 13 and Dec. 24 and 29, two dark-skinned males entered the Xtra-Mart in Wells to purchase cartons of Newport box 100 (cigarettes),” police said in a social media statement. They said the two men  were seen each time driving a gray, older model Chevrolet Impala, with an unknown license plate. Police said the pair have used a total of six different credit cards, providing similar signatures for all cards, and that they purchase one additional small item with each carton of cigarettes — and purchased only one carton at a time.

Both men are descrbied as 5-feet, 10-inches to 6-feet tall; one is of average build and has a beard, while the other is described as slender, wearing athletic-style clothing and baseball caps.
