SACO — A Scarborough man was arrested on multiple charges on Friday after state police saw him throw marijuana out of his vehicle.

On Friday, state police from Troops A, B, G and the Air Wing unit were conducting a speed detail on the turnpike in Saco, according to a post on the Maine State Police Department Facebook page.

State troopers attempted to stop a red BMW for speeding around 10:45 a.m. The car continued driving south, and did not stop for police. A state trooper saw the driver throw marijuana out of the car during attempts to stop him, according to police. After about two miles, the car stopped on the Exit 36 off ramp.

Police seized 3.7 pounds of marijuana from the car. The driver, Brandon Joseph Dagnese of Scarborough was arrested and charged with violation of bail, failing to stop for a law enforcement officer, and unlawful trafficking, according to police. Dagnese was on bail for prior trafficking charges, according to police. A passenger in the car was not charged.

On Saturday, state police from Troop A arrested Christopher Evans, 33, of Saco during a distracted driving detail on I-95 in Saco.

According to state police, a car was stopped in the area of the Saco Toll Plaza for a traffic violation. A passenger in the car told police he did not have an identification card on him and troopers believed he gave them a false name. The driver of the car refused to tell state troopers the passenger’s correct name, according to police.

Saco Police responded to the traffic stop, as it was believed the person was from the Saco area. A Saco police officer identified Evans from previous contacts, according to state police.

Evans held warrants for probation revocation, theft by deception, operating after a revoked license, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, violation of condition of release, and failure to comply with curfew or report to the Saco Police Department. Bail on these warrants was set at $10,000 cash and Evans was transported to York County Jail.
